for all of life, it takes energy to get energy, meaning that the real cost of energy lies in both the cost of consumption and of acquisition. minimizing energy consumption can significantly reduce the total cost of energy. life reduces the demand for energy by employing strategies when and wherever possible that don`t go counter to the general flow, but instead leverage energy flows to their advantage. riding the currents, capitalizing on the polarity of water, or growing at context-appropriate rates all increase energy efficiency. by considering what is processed, when and where necessary processes occur, and the actual processes used, energy consumption can be reduced.

the andean condors are heavy birds (24-33 lib for males, 13-31 lbs for females) that have a large wingspan (9.2-10.5 feet). this birds soar with their wings held horizontally and its primary feathers bent upwars at the tips. it flaps it`s wings on rising from the ground, but after attaining a moderate elevation it flaps its wings very rarely, relying on thermals to stay aloft. it prefers to roost on high places from which it can launch without major wing-flapping effort. they usually soar the rock cliffs, using the heat thermals to aid them in rising in the air.


this condors have the habit of urohidrosis, defecating onto the scaly portions of the legs as a cooling mechanism, using evaporative cooling of the fluids, which makes their legs often streaked with a white buildup of uric acid. evaporative cooling is a physical phenomenon in which evaporation of a liquid, typically into surrounding air, cools an object or a liquid in contact with it. the amount of heat that is needed to evaporate the liquid, is drawn from the air.


the head and neck of the condor are bald, with very few feathers, and are kept meticulously clean by the bird. their baldness is an adaptation for hygiene (evolve to survive), allowing the skin to be exposed to the sterilizing effects of dehydration and ultraviolet light at high altitudes. the skin of the head and neck is capable of flushing noticeably in response to emotional state, which serves to communicate between individuals. the alkosto pereira is a wharehouse that uses the temperature of the earth (22 C) to maintain a constant temperature inside the wharehouse through tubes located through out the project.
